25 years. pa native. beach lover. currently located in: san jose, costa rica. |
I know I’m so mysterious and secretive on this little blog of mine, but I want to get better.
I’m thinking that probably very few of you know, but I work for a NGO down here in Costa Rica. A very small NGO. As in, the field staff for Costa Rica consists of one full-time person and sometimes an assistant. For the past 9 months, I’ve been the assistant to the Field Director, Cara. A few weeks ago (or was it months now—crazy how time passes), Cara and I both got promotions (yay!!) which means that Cara moves to Boston to work for the same NGO at headquarters and I move up to Field Director, but have to stay down here. all. alone. (boo!!)
After a few weeks of training and stressing (the organization’s bank account is still not in my name, why is CR soooo slow??) my only co-worker and my best friend left the land of rice and beans for good (or at least until next year). I won’t get another co-worker until January, and who knows if they’ll be as awesome as Cara?? Did I mention it was sad? (I cried all the way home on public bus—not embarrassing at all.)
Some good news—I get to move into a new apartment! Definitely an upgrade, although now I’ll be working from home, which I have mixed feelings about. I’ll have and oven (a mini one) and a microwave… and, I almost forgot, a TELEVISION, all of which are luxuries I currently live without.
Safe travels today Cara! I miss you already!!
Now, a montage.

Cara and I at Playa Conchal (February)

After walking FOUR HOURS on a pilgrimage to that church for fair food (I can’t get this picture to rotate…).

Wearing matching shirts for some meeting (nor can I get this one to rotate).

At Cara’s goodbye party in Pilas de Bejuco, Guanacaste.
